Workshop: Assessing Significance at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, India
The first of the public workshops planned as part of the project to prepare a “Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP)” for the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, will take place virtually on June 17 and 18, 2021.
The broad objective of the workshop is to create a framework for assessing the various values of the Stadium as embodied in its setting, fabric, use, associations, meanings, etc., and to understand the critical role of “Cultural Significance” in formulating the Conservation Management Plan. The workshop will also serve as a catalyst for building awareness of the need to conserve India’s threatened Post-Independence 20th century heritage.
About the Workshop
The workshop is structured around five technical sessions that are spread over two days to permit global participation. The first four sessions comprise theme-specific lecture-presentations that can be seen as pointers towards a value-based assessment of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium at multiple levels. The last is planned as a Panel Discussion intended to explore some additional issues that may be critical in the process of conserving and revitalising Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium.
