According to the New York-based World Monuments Fund (WMF), which is heavily involved with the restoration efforts of the Golden Palace Monastery, about 20 columns need complete replacement, while others need only partial repair. New teak logs from Karenni State were chemically treated so that they would be protected from both weather and termites.
The Qianlong Garden Conservation Project is a joint initiative between the Palace Museum, which manages the Forbidden City, and the World Monuments Fund. WMF Senior Advisor Henry Ng discussed the project’s progress at a gathering of WMF’s Moai Circle at the bar Lumos.

A graceful baroque church built in the late 18th century by members of Arizona's Tohono O'odham Nation, and a stark mission constructed at the Acoma pueblo in New Mexico a century earlier are among 50 world heritage sites on the 2016 World Monuments Watch. The list, which is published annually, serves to draw attention to cultural sites at risk of being damaged by development or lack of care, as well as social, political and natural forces.
The World Monuments Watch, announced every two years and now in its 20th year, highlights sites and monuments around the world at risk from development, conflict or climate change and natural catastrophe. A total of 50 sites are included in the 2016 watch list, including two in the United States, 15 in Europe and seven in North Africa and the Middle East.
